Education:
The self-dependent community with no one deprived of rights as basic as survival, participation, protection, and development in India.
For a community to excel in the field of education one is required to identify the students with different strength because of the availability of endless options and to nurture that talent at an early age so that they can utilize the available resources at the optimum level, but not everyone can afford it and therefore we at Anfaal strongly support the cause of education.
Career Guidance: We conduct career guidance seminars and invite professionals from various fields to inspire and guide the students of class 7th onwards. These early coaching and mentoring help them to identify their strength and better plan their future.
>>The team regularly conducts Career Guidance programs to expand their horizon and provide them the platform to evaluate their strengths and capabilities.
>>The team designed a flagship program and termed it as ‘Talent Upliftment Scholarship Examination’ (TUSE) for the students of class 8th and 9th from the underprivileged section of the community and recognized the virtuous students to provide them a fair chance to compete by awarding them with scholarships in coaching classes for 9th and 10th.
>>The Team has also designed an exclusive Mentorship Program in association with the TUSE for those deserving students who are virtuous and can excel with guidance and recognition.
School fees: We support underprivileged students who cannot afford to go to school and evaluate these requests based on the merit of the student and financial stability of the parents, the financial aid/scholarships are provided to offer them a fair chance to succeed.
Ration/ Food Assistance:
Monthly ration to the destitute families: There are many widows and elderly people who either couldn’t go to work or are not skilled enough to find a job to earn their livelihood. We at Anfaal have identified and adopted such families and ensured that they don’t sleep on an empty stomach.
Contribution to the marriage of girl child: Anfaal regularly receives requests from needy families to contribute during their daughter's marriage. Anfaal provides Nikah Dinner support on the wedding day for up to 250 guests.
House Repairs/ Maintenance: Anfaal has helped many families by maintaining and repairing their shelter/house, this assistance was provided to orphans, widows, and families living in destitute and inhabitable condition. However, based on the requirement of funds in other projects, contribution under this head is very limited
Disaster Management Assistance: When the COVID-19 pandemic was announced followed by the nationwide lockdown, the Anfaal team immediately geared up and reached out to “Daily Wage” workers in Mumbai and MMR, who were in a dire situation and needed desperate help. Daily Wage workers are people who find a job (often different) and are paid on a day to day basis. Daily Wage workers are aged anywhere between 12 to 60+ but had failed to earn a livelihood, in 2 phases with more than 300 active volunteers, 14,000+ ration kits were distributed to these underprivileged sections of our society, irrespective of religion, caste or creed.
Anfaal Foundation has been involved in the welfare work of the Daily Wage worker in Mumbai for several years, including providing education so that the next generation is better equipped to lift themselves out of the Daily Wage cycle.
In the current emergency, the Anfaal Foundation aims to provide ration for during the lock-down - rice, flour, lentils, oil, onions, potatoes, and spices. These are purchased in bulk and then boxed by volunteers.
Ration Aid:
• Multiple teams such as procurement, call center, volunteer team networks were formed and the lessons learned were cascaded to efficiently complete the distribution of ration kit to thousands of families in multi-phases.
• The teams were trained to maintain hygiene, practice social distancing, and necessary protection as per the norms laid by the administration.
• The ration kit was redesigned considering the family size; Kit1 - to meet the needs of 1-4 family members and Kit2 – big enough to help family size more than 5 members, was thought and approved.
• A new ‘Ration Distribution Registration Form’ (new form) was devised to collect family member’s information which helped smoothen the distribution process.
• The Call Centre was set-up and teams trained to receive inbound and/or make outbound calls to collect data of family members to determine the number of family members.
• The assigned area volunteers played a vital role in collating and dissevering the data to place an order with the administration team for their respective areas.
• The procurement team was proficient and well-versed with the vendors, procurement and stocking process, the required food grains were efficiently acquired and effortlessly transported to the warehouse.
• A well-organized warehouse was established to handle and pack more than 300+ tons of food grains.
• The food-grains were meticulously weighed, packed, and dispatched to more than 60+ areas in Mumbai and MMR within no time.
• The area volunteers ensured that the kits received were segregated and delivered to the beneficiaries as per the family size recorded in the new form.
• In record time and with utmost discipline more than 4000 kits in Phase I and more than 10,300 kits Phase II were delivered to the identified families.

COVID-19 Helpline Service:
A COVID-19 helpline service, a free medical consultation service, was started in mid-April 2020.
Intent – to share the awareness about the Do’s and Don’t’s during the pandemic and lockdown and to break the cycle of myths and misconceptions which was fast spreading through social media.
Roles and Responsibility – the medical consultation was managed in association with our panel doctor Dr. Shezanali Hemani, M.B.B.S. He was actively working as a warrior in the Cardiac ICU unit of Global Hospital in Pune, and is currently serving the MCGM in PN ward, fighting with the widespread of the pandemic. His expertise and assistance were helping the callers immensely, however we were continuously exploring other options to extend our reach to the impacted and stranded.
Enhancement to the COVID-19 Helpline Services:
A situation was brought to our notice related to a death of a community member in Kurla and since the heirs were in an isolation ward as the relatives and direct contacts of an infected patient need to be quarantined for 14 days since there was no legal heritor present to claim the ownership the dead body, it was eventually buried by strangers in a Muslim Cemetery in Kurla. This was an unusual and unexpected situation that needed immediate attention. The management team quickly took note of the gravity of the matter and consulted with the doctors and clerics and a necessity to enhance the medical helpline services produced the formation of the ‘Burial Assistance’ process and a team leader was appointed.
Burial Assistance:
Intent – to arrange the burial of COVID-19 positive patients, who passed away, in the community’s cemetery in a respectful manner abiding with the Islamic Laws and the prescribed government guidelines.
Roles and Responsibility –:
>>An internal procedural manual was created with the help of Agha Sayed Faizan Haider Jawwadi, for “Burial related Islamic Laws”, Dr. Shezanali Hemani, for “Medical” expertize and “COVID-19: Guidelines on Dead Body Management” procedural manual released by Government of India Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Directorate General of Health Services (EMR Division).
>> A diverse team was formed to handle
>> telephonic requests;
>> area volunteers to help with the burial;
>> co-ordination team to work with Qabrastan/ Cemetery Management Committee across Mumbai & MMR.
>> On receipt of the request over the phone, the team coordinated with each other, in absence of the legal heir, and the burial procedure is been managed.
>> Since the inception of the project, the team has successfully helped many families who were in need
COVID-19 Tracker and Care Helpline:
With a week of operating the Burial Assistance process and upon discussion with the helpline team, it was evident and agreed to further elaborate the responsibility and take ownership of the suspected or infected patients as much as we can to warrant the least number of patients reach Burial Assistance helpline.
Intent – to assist the suspected COVID-19 patients, who are symptomatic or asymptomatic, to receive hospital care as quickly as possible and receive psychological/ moral/ food-supply/ financial assistance for the patient(s) and their immediate family.
Roles and Responsibility –
A Shia COVID-19 tracker along with a Google Form was designed and the links were shared in the community with the help of social media channels.
